Money they say answereth all things that's why getting the money is one of the hardest things in life and practically the reason we do 90% of what we do. While many may find it difficult to accumulate this money, people are getting it without much physical struggle (maybe spiritual).
Churches in Nigeria are known worldwide to be a symbol of both spiritual maturity and wealth and it was no surprise that over three Nigerian pastors appeared on the list of top ten richest pastors in the world with a combined networth of over 200 Million Dollars. That's over 77 Billion Naira!
Today I take a critical and mathematical look into the Nigerian church system and using basic arithmetic and official figures, I would calculate the total amount of money generated from weekly offerings.
Firstly i will begin with RCCG( The Redeemed Christian Church Of God). According to Wikipedia, RCCG total members is set at over 10 Million.
Then let's imagine that for each Sunday every single one of them gives an offering on 1 Naira that means, the church gets 10 Million Naira! But that's not true obviously, let's forget the ones that give offering in thousands( the politicians and rich people).
Let's assume that each person gives an offering of just 100Naira( an average number), multiply that by the total number of members an it gives a you a whooping one Billion Naira. 1 Billion Naira weekly excluding tithes and also offerings from 200 naira to even 200 Thousand Naira. The real figure should be a whooping 3 Billion Naira for just a week and over 10 Billion in a single month.
Now to Living Faith. In 1999 BBC acknowledged there church as the biggest church in the world with an ability to sit over 50,000 people.
Also in 2014, Bishop Oyedepo himself acknowledged that his church had over 6 million worldwide and over a million people attended Shiloh annually.
Assuming his church grew at a steady rate, the total number of members should now be at 8-9 million and If they all give an offering of 100 naira weekly, that's a whooping 800 Million excluding tithes and offerings. The total figure should be at 1.5 to 2 Billion Naira weekly and over 8 billion monthly.
The same goes for SCOAN and Loveworld Ministry. This churches really make a good amount of money and I hope they are putting it to good use, I don't condemn anyone because they must have worked really hard to get to the level they are. But I just hope that they try as much as possible to impact on the lives of Nigerians and Christians worldwide that believe in them.
That's my view.
